Discipline Policy

We use the Conflict-Resolution to assist children in finding solutions to problems. Children are encouraged to use their words, express feelings and empathize. Conflict-Resolution requires "true work" among all involved. These skills are learned over time and some children learn them more quickly than others.

The teachers will intervene in conflicts if unacceptable behaviour begins to arise. If the child cannot express themselves verbally, they may be asked to sit in a chairfor a coll-down period. The teacher will bring activities to the child in his or her seat so there is no "down time" during class. The period of time may vary from child to child but will last only when the student seems ready to rejoin the community.

In extreme cases, a child's behaviour may jeopardise another student's safety. In these instances, the parents will be notified immediately, the child will be removed from the classroom and a conference will be set to develop a plan of action. If the negative behaviour continues, a warning of expulsion will be given and a subsequent expulsion if the offenses do not cease.
